Bill and I attended the ASSDF Fall Festival this past weekend in Texarkana. It was a good weekend with approximately 11 squares dancing at the start of each evening with some not dancing. Mac Letson from Alabama called a fun dance Friday night and Arkansas callers whooped it up on Saturday night. Dave Towry was the MC Saturday night and also called. He did a marvelous job! Clarence Hicks was our representative at the ASSDF Delegates meeting on Saturday and brought back $10 for the club. Thank Clarence when you see him, he doesn't do e-mail. The delegates voted to have the festival in Texarkana again next year. It is by far the most reasonable facility.
Several DeSoto Dancers attended: Clarence Hicks, Bob Perry, Doris Mallory, Stephanie Keeney and Bill and Fran Bazemore.
Now for the grand prize report. DeSoto Dancers were well represented. 3rd prize of $100 went to Paula Alan, 2nd prize of $200 went to Harold Stinton (not sure about the name or club). And I'm saving the best for last. Bill and I won the 7 day Resort prize to anywhere in the United States. We are excited and having fun deciding where and when to go.

The young people pictured are from Cheyenne, Wyoming and were on their way to East Texas. They stopped by to dance Saturday night. They were excellent and friendly dancers.

A Back to School night was held August 11th. Pictured below are Lisa Kissire, principal of Mt. Pine Elementary,
and Bunny Johnson, who brought the supplies, donated by DeSoto Dancers and the Village A-Team, to the school.

About a dozen DeSoto Dancers pounced in to the Levis and Lace 1st Annual Dog Daze Dance.

We had a wonderful crowd at the 2011 Graduation Dance. The graduates who were present were: Alana Clegg and Jim and Diane Paxinos. Those not present were "Sam" Taylor, Betsy Bieser and Al and Jeannie Brandeberry.

Note: Square dance attire is the dress code, except in June, July and August. Club dress is tradionally worn on the first Thursday of the month. Guest fees are $4.00 per person. DeSoto Dancers regular meeting is Thursday evening from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Coronado Center with Dave Towrey calling the squares. The public is always welcome to attend.
